What we do

Global world of paper

Pulp and paper is one of the largest industrial sectors in the world, the world paper production is around 400 million tons a year.
The industry is still growing, around 2020 it is forecasted that the total consumption will be 500 million tons a year.

Pulp and paper production, consumption and wasting have many negative environmental and social impacts. The pulp and paper industry is among the world’s largest generators of air and water pollutants, waste products, and the gases that cause climate change.
It is also one of the largest users of raw materials, including fresh water, energy, and forest fibers.

Producing recycled paper causes 74 percent less air pollution, 35 percent less water pollution, and creates 5 times the number of jobs than producing paper from trees. It saves old-growth trees, forest eco-systems, native habitat and biodiversity.

World recovered paper collection per year is around 240 million tons with an annual global trade of 36 million tons. World recovered paper demand has grown by around 70 million tonnes (45%) in the last ten years. Asian demand respresent the majority of this growth, increasing by about 60 million tonnes. China alone registered a 260% recovered paper demand growth, fuelled by its fast growing paper and board demand, especially on the recycled paper and board side.

Although 2013 is a sluggish year due to economic global downtrend, the coming years the industry will still grow further only at a lower pace. Recovered paper will play the years ahead a vital role in the global production of paper with different opportunities per region. Due to globalisation in particular of the financial sector, technological improvements, and deregulation, economic crises can become more normal than we all think. It could lead to total different business cycles in our industry.

For the one’s staying ahead of the mulitude it can lead to new business opportunities, Panda chooses to be one of them.

Corporate Social Responsibility is as management process the future by what Panda does, in this way Panda contributes to furthering the sustainability of the chain, resulting in social and environmental responsible decisions in addition resulting in the desired reduction of the CO2 footprint. Panda wants to contribute to furthering the sustainability of the chain by entering long-term strategic partnerships whose include strategic initiatives to reduce the chain’s footprint. Deploying and making available Panda’s expertise is an important tool in this. With its contribution, Panda wants to achieve good returns from trading and processing recycled material. As quality provider, the aim is always to keep costs as low as possible by optimising staff complement and conducting operations efficiently. Quality

Management systems and certificates

Quality products can not be produced when the organisation is not working with quality processes. Management systems and processes are fundamental to create quality products and services. We have created awareness of quality in all areas of the company, largely by implementing a certified management system. This ensures that Panda continues to improve in all areas.

Panda believes in qualtity management, transparency and environmental accountability and hence begun directly the path to ISO 9001:2008 accreditation and passed the test the month of June 2013. The underlying values of ISO 9001:2008 are ‘improvement’ and ‘customer orientation’. Panda expects the same effort of all its stakeholders without exception. The core concept of the norm is applied throughout all services, quality management, transparency and environmental accountability are pillars of Panda’s work.

Furthermore all obliged legal certifcates in the countries Panda purchases recycled products are in her possession. For example in the Netherlands the so called VIHB-number under the decree of the Ministery of Infrastructure and Environment, the same Panda has for the other countries she purchases.

Certifications are one of the ways in which Panda can guarantee that her recycled products are collected, recycled, transported and sold in a responsible way. The business principle “compliance with national and international legislation doing what we do the right way”, is a golden rule.

In addition to the ISO 9001:2008 as management system, Panda also uses ISO 26000 as guideline for Corporate Social Responsibility as management process to balance all activities based on the norm of ISO 26000, not just executing individual activities without cohesion.

Quality products

Quality is imparitive in our todays market invironment, co-mingled products being out of date as not done, especially in the light of the companies of tomorrow taking care of the next generation.

Panda selects her suppliers and end-users on a global level carefully to fulfill the companies overall goal with the strategy of natural quality of traded recycled products, in addition looking at the overall management style of her suppliers and end-users fitting within the management approach of CSR. It puts the need of the client at the core centre of what we do, and beyond that in the context of the interest of all stakeholders.

K

Why Panda?

Global partners

The competition is all around present with high overhead costs due to too many staff, local offices which creates in todays dynamic market environment a competitive disadvantage as market participants can be focussed too long on the past instead of tomorrow’s opportunities.

Within the management systematic approach of CSR (corporate social responsibility) above mentioned facts, creates disadvantages which in the new environmental business model of the future will lack a CSR advantage on different indicators, like carbon footprint, investments in the society as in different charity programs. Helping people fulfilling their dreams doing so called little things creating big things.

Panda has no global network of people legally connected to the company, however by nature connecting people like a franchise company. It keeps the motivation high as all participants are obliged to earn their own respect and money. In that sense Panda is like the natural Panda beer, only the strongest survive.

Global eye for opportunities

Panda has the global eye for opportunities, therefore most of the time we can encompass competition while we are hardly noticed. The moment we will be noticed we took our position in the market. Therefore our mission is to provide opportunities in the global business of commodities, not only for us but both for our suppliers and end-users and all stakeholders balancing the 3 P’s (People, Planet and Profit).

Panda creates by nature almost unnoticed her own niche markets serving the tissue and packaging industry around the world directly or indirectly with better quality grades, bulk grades when it fits the mission of the company being an opportunity.

Suppliers and end-users, if your company wants to benefit from the natural flow of Panda’s success do not hesitate and fill in your contact details in the section of “contact” and we will immediately contact you.

K

CSR

What is CSR?

We want to be a reliable partner for our suppliers and customers. This goes beyond the perfect delivery of products, we are eager to help them achieve their own sustainability targets.

Customers, suppliers, and society are making increased demands on the way products and services are produced. In addition they desire a transparency about honest information regarding the products and how they were produced. Due to this, Corportate Social Responsibility (CSR) became one of the most important management themes.

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is about achieving a balance by all companies aspects, between the three P’s, People, Planet and Profit.

Why CSR?

Many organisations wishes to comply on concerned demands of CSR, in many cases however, the internal management of businesses is not effective to meet the CSR (corporate social responsibility) requirements. What is lacking is a system which enables companies to handle the CSR seriously and profound.

Many attempts are focused on the short term although results can be achieved, it does not cover the subject in total. As organisations do not operate in a vacuum, they perform CSR as separate activities, the real cohesion is lacking.

How is Panda applying CSR?

Panda has been applying a CSR-tool with ISO 26000 as norm implementing the CSR as process and not as individual activity, this with the goal as stated in our vision to be the “Obvious choice” commodity trader.

ISO 26000 provides guidance on how businesses and organisations can operate in a socially responsible way. This means acting in an ethical and transparent way that contributes to the health and welfare of the society.

A management system like 9001:2008 provides structure and a systematic approach, Panda is using this as flatform for the overall approach of CSR instead of an individual activity. In other words Panda takes the overall social responsibility as norm.

CSR as management process

CSR is embedded in all business processes. With every business decision, the different stakeholder interests are weighed up, the interests of the persons, companies and organisations involved. CSR is tailor-made. The CSR activities are different for every company, it depends on company size, sector, culture and on company strategy.

CSR is a process, not a final destination. The objectives pursue change over time and with every business decision. Panda is looking for achievable steps to give shape to social responsibility.

Panda’s international vision on CSR

Panda’s primary objective is to be the “Obvious choice” commodity trader. In all we do we strive to provide professional services and added value, making it possible for our suppliers and customers to make their decisions effectively and to improve their productivity.

Panda has the goal to get our system certified according to the CSR Performance Ladder being an international recognized company with CSR as management process.
